ABOUT: In the Philippines, weaving is a tradition often passed down from mother to daughter, woman to woman. Crochet is a skill my own mother passed down to me. Due to the poor economy and lack of jobs, my mother was one of the many workers who immigrated from the Philippines in 1980 to find work. This piece was inspired by my mother & the women of our homeland. The colors, patterns and beading are reminiscent of our indigenous heritage of the Northern Philippines. Special thank you to my former Manchester flatmate & good friend, R. Gurung, who assisted me in the assembling of the beading back when I started the first variation of the piece in 2016. |
